Peer Review #2

Quite recently I have read two very different blog posts from two different people. In order to review them I used the SPARK method, which was very useful to help me give feedback.

  • Specific: Comments are associated with a single word, phrase, or sentence.
  • Prescriptive: includes possible changes or links to useful resources or examples, as well as a solution or approach for improving the work.
  • Actionable: After reading the comments, the peer will know what steps to take to improve.
  • Referenced: The feedback directly references the task standards, requirements, or target skills.
  • Kind: All comments must be made in a kind and supportive manner.

This week I have learned that everybody rights in their own way and that everybody makes mistakes while writing. I have also realised that I made some of those mistakes, like misspelling, lack of own opinion and sometimes missing references too.

I have also read an interesting article about feedback called “The Power of Giving Feedback and Receiving Feedback in Peer Assessment.” The study said that despite the well-documented claims of peer assessment, little is known about how it works or how it adds to students' learning gains. When 41 students took part in a peer assessment exercise, the study looked at their replies to online surveys and their online written discussions. During the phases of giving and getting feedback, data analysis revealed that students were engaged in a variety of learning activities.

The study has also mentioned that students benefit more from giving feedback rather than receiving feedback. I can personally relate to that statement because I feel like I learn more by giving feedback to other people rather than receiving feedback.

Giving feedback improves my perspective and helps me understand where I went wrong and it also helps me relate to the writer that I’m giving feedback too by pointing out their imperfections that I have or used to have.

Overall, the feedback experience is very helpful.
