Final Rewrite
So, for the past few weeks I have participated in peer
review with other students from my college course. It was an interesting
experience to say the least. I have received feedback and given feedback and I have
learned a lot from both of them.
For instance, I learned how to take feedback and how to analyse
it to see how I can improve my own work. I have also learned by giving feedback
to my fellow peers. By feedforwarding I was able to see my own mistakes in my
own work.
Rewriting my blog posts didn’t take as long as it did when I
first wrote them. But I did notice that all of my posts had common mistakes and
those were my range of vocabulary and lack of personal opinion. In my old posts
I have also failed to use the proper Harvard citing and referencing techniques.
But now in my recent works I am trying to improve and not to make those
mistakes too often.
During this experience I have read a lot of articles that
helped me with rewriting my blogs but to also be able to receive and give
feedback to others.
From this week’s feedback and rewrite I have seen articles talking about what to do and not to do when writing something like an essay for an example. One of those things is which words you can replace with other words. For example, instead of “can” you can say “is able to”, “has the opportunity to”, “has the capacity for”, or “has the ability to”. This way if you have a word count for your essay then you have the ability to add more words.
I have also learned about active and passive voice in text. For
example, instead of saying “the entrance exam was failed by over one-third of
the applicants to the school” you should say “over one-third of the applicants to
the school have failed the entrance exam” that way the sentence becomes stronger.
Thanks to this, now I know how to make more of an impact in my future writings.
Overall, I really enjoyed the peer review experience as it
helped me understand my mistakes and what to do and not to do in the future.
